Data Collection

Data collection provides educators and policymakers with the information they need to make decisions. It allows systems to measure impact in areas such as student performance and wellbeing.

Evidence-based data collection

At Edu.Data we believe in designing robust, evidence-based data collection methods to ensure you can measure impact within your setting.

What is data collection?

Data collection is the process of gathering information or data from various sources using different methods such as surveys, observations, interviews, experiments, and other techniques.

The purpose

It is essential in measuring student outcomes because it provides an objective and accurate way to evaluate student performance, identify areas of strength and weakness, and make data-driven decisions to improve educational outcomes. By analysing data collected over time, educators can determine whether changes in curriculum, teaching methods, or classroom resources have had a positive impact on student outcomes. Without data collection, educators and policymakers would have little information to guide decision-making and would have to rely on anecdotal evidence or intuition.

Forms of data

Data comes in two forms; quantitative (numerical) or qualitative (descriptive), and it can be used for a variety of purposes such as research, analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving. Within education a large amount of data collected is qualitative however it is often never used as it is to challenging to extract. We believe in using this data plus quantitative sources to triangulate and verify practice, to ensure your system is making evidenced based decisions.

Data collection methods

Situational analysis

Situational analysis looks to establish your current processes and identify the opportunities and challenges within your setting. It is a great place to start when developing your school improvement plan, a new intervention or course offering.

Big data analysis

Big data analysis looks at collecting and discussing data from across your setting, including from a variety of different sources to create a comprehensive picture of the activities and practices that inform your outcomes including student growth.

Triangulation

Our team has vast experience in organising and delivering stakeholder, teacher, parent and student interviews to collect qualitative data.

Surveying

Edu.Data has vast experience in designing surveys specific to educational settings. We have several platforms available to best suit the needs of clients.

Analysis solutions

Edu.Data creates web based solutions that allow schools and organisations to share analytics findings with others. These solutions allow for collaboration amongst multiple stakeholders and provide a platform on which stakeholders can monitor their progress, plan for the future and measure improvement.
